THE SS.ARTHURTOWN RAN AGROUND IN THICK FOG OFF TREVOSE HEAD ON THE 7TH AUGUST 1944, SHE TRIED TO MAKE PADSTOW BUT FOUNDERED OFF STEPPER POINT. HER LENGTH WAS 49m AND WEIGHT 527 tons WITH A CARGO OF SCRAP IRON.THE WRECK LIES IN A MAXIMUM DEPTH OF 22m SHOWING UP VERY WELL ON SONAR AND IS A GOOD SITE FOR LESS EXPERIANCED DIVERS THE AREA OFF TRVOSE HEAD CAN BE SUBJECT TO STRONG CURRENTS ON SPRINGS. SLACK IS +30 MINUTES AT HIGH/LOW NEWQUAY. THE BEST LAUNCH SITE IS ROCK 3 miles AWAY PARKING IS LIMITED SO GET THERE EARLY, THERE IS A LAUNCH FEE
